Disraeli (1929)

Alfred E. Green’s Disraeli was another Best Picture nominee of 1930, with three nominations and one win for Best Actor for George Arliss, the first British actor to win the award. This was Arliss’ third performance as the Prime Minister of England, having played the character on stage in 1911 and in a silent film in 1921. This win made him the first actor to win this award for a character played on the stage and on screen. His award-winning performance in Disraeli defeated himself in the category of Best Actor, as he was also nominated for the same category for his performance in The Green Goddess.
